Drones Multilingual Glossary

Drones Multilingual Glossary

We would like to show you some results from our participation in the Drone Team Project. English teachers from the three schools collaborated to elaborate a multilingual glossary of terms related to drones. It is a basic vocabulary that you can use to understand drones technology better. Here’s a link to our glossary, where you can find basic English terms, a definition in English, and their translation into the 4 languages of the 4 countries participating: Spanish, Croatian, Polish and Slovenian. If you want some fun, you can play our anagram game on line:  Drone Team Anagram game...
Semana de miedo

Semana de miedo

Halloween activities. The week before Halloween students from 1st and 2nd of ESO were invited to take part in a pumpkin-carving contest to show their artistic skills and learn a little more about this festivity. Some other lingustic activities were also carried out in the classrooms. All the pumpkins this year were scary and threatening-looking but at the same time they seemed  funny and friendly. The winner pumpkin was made by Antonio and María Campoy and Nuria Bernabéu from 1st of ESO. María Abhari and Inés Molina, also from 1st of ESO, got the second prize. The third prize was for Nerea Cintas and Amanda Granero, students of 2nd of ESO. Congratulations to all the contestants and to the winners.
European work experience in Ireland

European work experience in Ireland

This year, two of our students from the second course in Lower Cycle in Administration are doing their training in Ireland. Joan Ramon and Ruth Pérez went to Ireland last April and they will be coming back to Spain in July, once they finish their training there. At present, they are staying in a shared flat with some other students in Boyle, county Roscommon, a small town west of Dublin. The students are doing administrative work, practising their English and getting to know new people and places. This is how Ruth feels about her experience so far: “Hello Rafa, I’m very fine, I’m in love with this place. My house is perfect, because it is new and very comfortable, The only problem is that we are many people, so I don´t speak in English,in my apartment but I practise more English with Helen. Also,I go to the gym every week and Ispeak English with people who are there, because I want to learn more. My English has improved, because the first week I didn’t speak English because I was  very shy, but now I speak more English. Helen says that I have to stay that way. I know I’m more “suelta” but I have a lot to improve, but little by little. This experience is the best. I don’t think that I will have a similar experience to this. This moment, I don´t have any problem. Everything is perfect!”   We hope that  both Ruth and Joan have an amazing time there and make the most of it. Good luck!   Ascen García and...
The World keeps replying.

The World keeps replying.

A couple of months ago a group of students from 2nd of ESO  started using Postcrossing, an interesting  website that helps you send and receive postcards from people all over the world. Students have been writing and sending some postcards in English to Germany, Russia, China, the USA, Finland and Belgium and in turn have received some others from Germany, Japan, Hungary, the USA, Russia, China, Australia and Taiwan. It has been a nice, quiet way to practice written English and to learn customs and traditions from foreign countries. Can you guess where each of these postcards is from?      ...
“Culture Class”

“Culture Class”

Last Friday, the 18th of March, the students from Bachillerato in IES La Foia attended a funny English lesson where they learned and refreshed some interesting aspects of British culture. Jon, the expert on such matters for the occasion, had the students thinking on such diverse topics as the Union Jack, the reason why British and other people around the world drive on the left, what objects are more typically lost in the tube and other curious things. There was even a quiz on culture with which students could find out how much they knew about Britain. What’s more, Joseph, from 2nd of Bachillerato, could use the phonecall help when taking part in “Who wants to be a millionaire?“and asked Jon’s mum herself!! The session was a funny one, and some students like Tomás, Lucía, Iván, Joseph and Vicente were lucky enough to win the limited-edition, prize for the very-intelligent students that Jon so kindly gave them. We would like to thank Jon and Burlington Books for the  pleasant experience.  ...
